Harry James Corbett Jr.
Apr 16, 2018Hutchinson Island FL, died at his Suffield, CT home on April 8, 2018 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Harry J. Corbett and Catherine (Devine) Corbett. Harry was married to M. Isabel Corbett. He was born in Barre, MA and resided there during his early years. He was a graduate from Barre High School, where he was active in varsity sports. He then graduated from St. Anselm College. Then, he entered the USAF officer Training School. He spent 7 years in the USAF; stateside on combat crew missile officer duty. He finished up as a Captain after serving volunteer duty in Vietnam. His professional career was in: Commercial Lending and Finance in commercial banking, with extensive time working for Shawmut National and Fleet Financial. Prior to moving to Florida, he and his wife resided in Farmington, CT and Harwich Port, MA. In recent years, Harry was active in philanthropy and had established a Charitable Trust and Foundation where various entities in his hometown will share in future annual bequests, some named for his mother who taught in Barre for over 40 years. There were many people in his hometown, specially his mother's friends, that took time for him and this is his way of giving back. Besides his wife M. Isabel Corbett, he also leaves several sisters and brothers in law, nephews, nieces and cousins. Harry's family will receive friends Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Pillsbury Funeral Home, 96 S. Barre Rd., Barre, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 13, 2018, 11:00 AM, at St. Joseph Church, 29 South St., Barre, MA. Burial will be at the family site in St. Joseph Cemetery, Barre, MA. He requests that no flowers be sent and requests that others look around their hometown and think about giving a little to improve each day in their own communities. (Hartford Courant)
